TULSA CRIMINAL LAW
You don't have to be the perpetrator to get into legal difficulties with the government. The rules of criminal procedure are different in each jurisdiction. Never, never, ever, assume that you are being treated fairly or even being told the truth when you are dealing with the government. Always get legal representation or advice before you act.
If you are advised your rights by a law enforcement officer, take advantage of your constitutionally provided rights and seek legal advice. Abraham Lincoln said "the man that represents himself, has a fool for a client!" Andy Sipowitz, the homicide detective on NYPD Blue said "you'd better lawyer up!" TULSA PERSONAL INJURY
If it's you or someone you care about that is injured in an automobile accident or some other injury dealing with equipment the damages can be life long and you may not even be aware of your damages for months or years after the incident. Remember the insurance adjustor, no matter how friendly he or she may seem, does not work for you or have your best interest in mind when they deal with you. They work for the company and they do not make any money by paying claims.
Get a lawyer as soon as possible and don't give a written or oral statement to anyone without first speaking with your lawyer. Don't sign a release of any kind without having a lawyer review the release. You never know what you are signing.
TULSA CHILD CUSTODY
Child Custody law seems to change daily in this area of the law and Father's, Mother's and Grandparent's have different rights to visitation and custody. It is complicated and your rights can be affected for a very long time, at least until the child is 18 or graduated from high school. Be careful and seek legal counsel.
Oklahoma has rejected the "tender years doctrine" and custody of younger children do not default to the mother as it did in years past. Many fathers now enjoy full and joint custody of preschool aged children.
TULSA DIVORCE
Divorce law is probably the most emotional area of our practice. Should you divorce in Oklahoma you should know that Oklahoma is not a community property state and you are not automatically entitled to 50% of the marital estate when you divorce. Alimony and division of assets including retirement plans are very complicated and important issues.
There are many options available to the divorce client that may alleviate the need for a trial. Most of our cases settle by agreement or through the use of a mediator. This allows the client more say in the case and usually lessens the expense of the divorce.
